Acer Aspire Hangs At POST Screen

  • 0

When i power on my laptop, it shows the usual POST screen: acer empowering people and at the bottom left: press f2 to enter setup. Usually, after a few seconds, it will loads the windows screen but now, it just stay there with nothing happened. I tried pressing f2 button, and it says ‘entering setup’ at the bottom left while still at the same screen. Waited more than 30 minutes…and still nothing happened. Shut down the laptop by pressing the power button. Then, turned it on again but the same thing happened. Doing it a couple of times…no positive signs.

Before this happen, I was playing a game. In the middle of it, the screen freezes for a few seconds and…shuushh blank screen and shut down instantly.

What would be the problem? How could I fix this?
Would be very grateful for any help to solve this.

  1. OK but first try this:
Turn off computer and remove from domestic power. Remove the laptop battery.
Next hold the power off/on button in for about 20 seconds. Re-assemble and see if this helps. It might not but it sometimes “unsticks” things and it is easy to try.

If the above doesn’t help, to obtain recovery disks you have to use the Acer website for your country. This would be the place to go from the USA:
    http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answer…
    (see link to Acer store).
Note that a recovery disk will not help if your issue is some other hardware fault other than the HD.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome – thanks

  4. It is not generally worthwhile to repair a motherboard – usually they are replaced.
If it is not identical then changes to the software would also be necessary (drivers etc), which can be challenging. The older the motherboard the more expensive they are, due to lack of demand.

There is no motherboard test available. If the RAM and the HD are eliminated from the equation it means the motherboard is almost a certainty.

If you have a CD player you could test both:

    RAM test:
    http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm

    Hard disk test:
    http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/suppor…

These would have to be made on another computer obviously. On the laptop you might have to go into BIOS and put the CD ahead of the HD because the CD has to be seen when you power up with it in the drive.

  5. If it won’t enter setup (F2) it is a hardware issue. Sounds like the motherboard is faulty.
