MSOCache Virus

  • 1

Hi,

My laptop with Vista has got hidden folder
MSOCache in most subfolders. This
MSOCache folder contains files Ghost.mp3,
Ghost1.bmp, Ghost2.bmp and files named E
and G that are displayed as filefolder in
properties.
It has turned folders into hidden folders.
I have tried antiviruses but it doesn’t treat it as
virus. Can anyone please suggest what cold it
be and any antivirus to clear it and restore
folders to normal settings?

  1. Hi there,

Msocache is called as Local Install source(LIS) which is copied to a partition on your hard drive during the installation of Office 2003.

There are 2 ways to remove Msocache safely from your computer.

    1. When you complete installing Office 2003, you will get a prompt window after setup is completed to “delete install files”, check it so that install files will not be saved to your Computer.

    2. If you are not checked the select box during setup of office 2003, not to worry!.
Still you can remove “MSOCache” files using “Disk Clean up tool” easily.

    Perform the following steps:

    (1.) Click Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools >Disk Cleanup

(2.) Disk Cleanup will performs its calculations

(3.) Once the disk cleanup opens, from the “Drives list” in the “Select Drive” dialog box, select the hard drive that contains the “Msocache” folder

(4.) Now Disk Cleanup scans and shows “Office Setup Files” in your computer on that drive .

(5.) In the “Files to delete” select “Office setup files” and click “OK” to remove the office setup files .

(6.) When you are asked “Are you sure you want to delete these files?” select “Yes”

    Thank You 🙂
