Problems with the charging circuits inside a laptop are relatively rare, especially for a laptop that is only about 18 months old, unless some external event happened – e.g. – someone dropped the laptop, or otherwise exposed it to a physical jolt – someone spilled liquid on the laptop, or exposed it to liquid such as rain, or sprayed it with liquid (it may not have been you that did those things – anyone who has had physical access to the laptop could have done one of those things, and have not told you.) – there was a power failure event that produced power spikes or surges, or there was a lightning storm in your area, while the AC adapter was plugged into the laptop.
It’s much more likely you have a problem with the AC adapter’s cord or plug that plugs into the laptop’s jack, or with the laptop’s jack..
Laptop no video (or video problems), and battery, AC adapter, power jack T shooting.
If there is nothing wrong with your AC adapter or it’s connection and the jack in the laptop…….
It’s not likely an ~18 month old battery would have this problem – an internally shorted battery – but it’s possible….
Laptop main batteries usually work as they should for a year or so, then they begin to rapidly deteriorate. From what I’ve seen, by two years they cannot be charged to anywhere near their full capacity, and it gets worse after that. They often develop internal shorts when they are older. If the battery gets HOT rather than just warm after you have attempted to charge it for at least a half hour, or after you have been using the laptop for a while with the AC adapter plugged in, it’s definitely internally shorted and you must replace it. Internally shorted batteries getting too hot have been known to cause the laptop to catch on fire. ….
