i am trying to hook up a laptop to internet that is over ten years old. when i try to set up a wireless network it say there’s no dial tone. also when i start it up it says “Network Wireless Update, Router is unavailable”. i was going to try an Ethernet cord but there is no Ethernet port on the laptop. what do i do?

First things first. If you’re running XP, you would do well to max out the RAM to what the machine will accept. Anything less than 512MB will be little more than frustration, especially with an older CPU.

That appears likely because it was set-up for dial-up access before. Are you planning on using dial-up or broadband? If dial-up then you’re going to need some type of dial-up modem; if broadband, then you’ll need some type of ethernet connection.
