Is There Any Rom Less Than 400mb To Install On My Pc?

I have two pcs. one has 512mb ram and runs winxp perfectly. another one coudn’t install winxp on it, it shows an error. probably because its 32 bit os and my new pc needs something 64bit stuff. I am currently running Slax 7.0.8 and peppermint 5 on the new pc (both using grub bootloader) and i wanna swap to something that runs all windows stuff well. I have wine on my Slax, but it doesn’t run all the windows apps. AND i m not into piracy to download a torrent of vista/7/8 and use it. i want a genuine os (even if its linux) to run on my pc, whose ROM is less than 400 mb, with the ability to run all the .exe files nicely. I too tried React OS but it doesn’t work. any other guesses? any free os for me on the internet? less than 400 mb, 64 bit, runs all my windows apps??

    1. The vast majority of Linux versions are free to download. Mint is currently #1, topping Ubuntu which it is based on. They base all their versions on the latest Ubuntu LTS (long term support) which will be good until April 2019. Unfortunately, even their lightweight 32-bit version weighs in at 1.4GB. You can purchase the DVDs very cheap though, usually about $5-10 compared to Windows at $100+.

    2. I don’t understand this ROM requirement, what exactly are you using? The 400MB requirement is going to extremely limit your Linux choices. Many 32-bit versions are kept just under 700MB to fit on a CD, then additional updates are installed immediately after connecting to the internet. But 64-bit versions are generally well over 1GB.

      As ijack said, only Windows will run ALL Windows apps. Wine is hit or miss. And if you want to run Linux, Wine is what you’ll have to use. Either than or you’ll have to find Linux compatible alternatives, if they exist.

      Try DistroWatch to find info about different Linux versions. Mint & Zorin OS are my current favorites, both based on Ubuntu. Zorin has an interface very similar to Win7. It also includes Wine for running Windows apps.
