Why Am I Getting The BIOS ROM Checksum Error?

The …ATAPI device … message and found CD ROM, try to Boot from it… fail message. The HP recovery cd doesn’t work. Can I fix this problem?

  1. Under normal circumstances the bios will recognize the setting have been cleared and on the first startup after that it will suggest you go into bios setup. I don’t know if that will happen for you. It’s going to depend on what the damage is.

    I’m not sure how to proceed. It doesn’t seem you have any device to boot from. I still feel the cdrom is bad. The bios gets to the ‘boot from cd’ stage and at that point it’s pretty much done its thing and hands off to the boot up process.

    It’s not booting from the hard drive either. You probably have a ‘boot from USB’ option in the boot order but apparently can’t get into bios setup to move its boot priority–if that were needed. There may be a separate option showing on the startup screen about pressing a key for the boot options. If so try that. After that the only possibility I can see is to set up a bootable flash drive with the bios update files on it and hope it boots from there and that the update fixes the problem.
