Everything started with a system message in the tray: a device attached to your usb port is not working.
I neglected the message but after a while an error sound started from my pc speaker and in the end the system blocked.
I tried from the device manager to update the USB controler driver, or to disable it and to reenable but in the end the error sound appeared and the system blocked. I surveyed the cpu and mb temperatures, but nothing could be related to the appearance of the error.
In the end I disabled the USB function from the mb BIOS, abandoning my 4 usb ports.
This was the only way to stabilise the computer.
Previously I checked the computer for viruses, and I restored an older image of the system disk. Nothing worked.
Any ideas to get back my 4 usb ports?

Sure Derek,
I fixed it by putting a PCI card with additional USB ports.
I could not trust anymore the integrated USBs, because of their random behaviour.
