I am reconditioning an old Dell Dimension 4700. So far I have added a WD Digital 1TB Hard Drive SATA and a Memorex Sata DVD/CD drive. The mother board had 2 SATA connectors. Removed the old CD Rom and DVD IDE burner and floppy drive.. Upgraded memory from 2GB to 4GB. Everything works and runs good. The Last item I want to do is replace the USB ports on the front panel. They are damaged. Can they be changed without replacing the mother board? O/S Windows 7 Professional.

You have to look at the motherboard to see if there is one or more USB internal connectors on the motherboard. If there is, then you are in good shape because each of those USB internal connectors supports two external USB ports and you just need to purchase a front panel USB plate that will replace one of your 5″ external tray fronts (the size of the DVD player). Make sure that you choose USB 2.0 ports because the USB 3.0 ports are not compatible with the older motherboards and use a different connector.
