My gateway laptop with Windows 8 was installing automatic updates (not sure what they were) when a friend held the power button in and turned it off. When turned back on it starts the update but never goes past 70% then restarts and says failure to configure windows updates…. then restarts and goes back to installing updates but never finishes it keeps going back and forth. My keyboard doesn’t work right. There are a few letters that don’t work as well as a few other buttons that I’m not exactly sure which ones they are. I have tried f8 but that must be a key that doesn’t work. Is there any other way to get past the update process? The gateway logo comes up then goes to a blue screen to update and will not go any further. Is there anything else I can do??

remove battery and power adapter then press and hold on button for 30 seconds then put battery back power back and restart sometimes this unsticks things as it discharges the motherboard sometimes you ave to do it more than once to get it done but its worth a try once unstuck then you can use a external keyboard
Far too hopeful but before you fire the big guns discharge the motherboard components. At odd times it unsticks things:
Turn off computer, remove power cord and main battery. Before re-assembling hold EDIT: Power Off/On button in for at least 20 seconds
Yeah, and cross fingers and toes too.
