Solved My Computer Keeps Freezing With Two Sticks Of RAM

  • 13

I have two 2GB DDR2 800 MHZ Kingston RAM and they are exactly the same. Each one works individually without any problems. However, whenever they work together and a game (like GTA 4 or Max Payne 3) runs with all settings checked as the highest level, my computer freezes about 15 min later with an annoying sound like grrrrrr.
I did mem test and it finished the test with each ram but it stopped at 16-18% as two rams were plugged.
I tested them in each slot together and individually and nothing changed.
I just bought CoolerMaster 500W PSU and again nothing changed. (I’d had 350W PSU before)
What should I do to fix this problem? I am really stressed. I have had this issue since I bought another 2GB RAM.(for about 2 months).
I am so sorry for my English, I tried to explain my problem as much as I can.
Thank you for help.
PS: I have an ASUS P5KC mobo and E8200 cpu

  1. For starters, you never told us anything about the PSUs other than wattage. Going from a 350W to a 500W isn’t necessarily an upgrade. Cooler Master makes a lot of different PSU series from cheapo to high-end. If you got the 500W GX-Lite, you got a good one. If you got the 500W eXtreme Power Plus, not so good. And you need to see if there’s anything you can do to prevent your GPU from getting so hot. How many case cooling fans do you have & how are they configured? Do you have a case with a top-mounted or bottom-mounted PSU?

Here’s some overclock settings to try. These will put the CPU at 3.2GHz @ 1600MHz FSB with the RAM running in sync @ 800MHz:

    AI overclocking = Manual
    CPU Ratio Control = Manual
    Ratio CMOS Setting = 8
    FSB Frequency = 400MHz
    PCIE Frequency = 100MHz
    DRAM Frequency = DDR2-667
DRAM Timing Control = Auto *** timing settings are a bit complicated. If you know what you’re doing, change the setting to Manual & input each setting as per the Kingston spec sheet below. If you’re not comfortable doing that, just leave the setting on Auto ***
    CPU Spread Spectrum = disabled
    PCIE Spread Spectrum = disabled
DRAM Voltage = 1.80V *** you may want to try the DRAM voltage at 1.9V to see if that helps. I don’t recommend going any higher than that ***

    Here’s your RAM specs:
