I’m suffering from lag spikes after changing to new cooler.
Lags occur after I play for atleast 5 min (games which requires performance) with period of 5-10 secs lag and then go to smooth again every 1-3 min. Temperature is very rarely above 50 Celsius and never above 55 Celsius. When lag starts task manager shows that that game using CPU very chubby and then releases the pressure again.
I can’t blame my graphic card (GeForce GTX 550 Ti) as it is up to date, bought a month ago from store.
My processor with motherboard were bought 4 month ago also from store.
First time I installed my CPU (AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE) I used AMD stock fan which was included in the package. Thermal Paste was already on cooler so I didn’t have to worry about anything. Everything worked smoothly and without issues but sound from stock fan was drilling my ears so I just bought a new cooler (Zalman CNPS7X LED Cooling Fan/Heatsink (1 x 92 mm – 1950 rpm Long Life Bearing)). Cleaned my CPU from old thermal compound and added new from Zalman. Launched my PC to test it out and until I launched a game everything was just fine. First my thought was not to use included resistor which makes fan quieter but drops speed from 2000 RPM to 1500 RPM. No success, then I turned off one of my HDD (I have 500W PSU) also with no success. Then I bought a new thermal compound and applied it again with PEA method, no success, added a little bit more Thermal Compound so that it would spread all over CPU, also with no luck. And now I’m just sitting here without any more ideas what to do. I have not overclocked anything as I prefer stability rather than risk.

When Cool & Quiet is enabled the CPU may throttle to a lower speed if there is no demand to run at full speed. This can cause the lags you describe.
The temperatures will not spike because the CPU voltage is decreased. That is how the CPU is throttled. This is done to conserve power and keep the fan from running fast, if at all.
This technology was designed for laptops where there is a finite amount of power available in the battery.
Disable Cool & Quiet to stop any throttling.
