Iomega Zip 100 External Drive Not Recognized

  • 4

My HP 1200 pc will not recognize that the zip drive is connected. I have re-ionstalled the software and unplugged and replugged the hardware. Is there anything else I can try?

  1. If you’re satisfied the settings are OK then it may just be bad. They’re cheap enough on ebay if you want to replace it. If so, consider getting one that’s USB.

  2. Did it ever see the drive?
How is the parallel port configured in cmos/bios setup. You’ll need a bi-directional data transfer setting.

Does the parallel port show up OK in device manager?
    .
It’s not a SCSI drive is it? If so, you need a SCSI card with a Future-Domain type external connector. If it’s a parallel port drive it must have a parallel cable. The SCSI and parallel cables look alike but aren’t.

  3. Is it attached to an IDE channel? If so I might try a live linux cd, I think they support ide zip drives.
Also consider a “restore point” to a time when it worked. See help and support pages for how to.
