Hi, I have obtained an excellent working vintage old computer that I bought aditional RAM for but then I can’t get the *&$E$ cover off to get inside!
IBM 486SX/Si-K50 .
Made in about 1993

The hardware manual says: “”The PS/ValuePoint computer top-cover assembly slides onto the base frame and is held in place by the cover-release latch (or latches) and cover lock. Before moving the computer, make sure that the cover is latched and the cover lock is in the locked position.””
But after a long examination I do not see any latches.
By the way, I have taken many covers off computers in the past including ones older than this one, but I havn’t a clue how to get the cover off of this one!!

There was message saying “then you’ll need to find a key for it, or else break the lock off (which is actually quite easy to do).”
But the lock cylinder is flush with the front panel, there is not way to get a tool next to the cylander to pry. Anybody know how to go about breaking off a cover key lock on an old IBM?
And where are those latches hidden?

Worldlibrary wins the intelligence test which I flunked :0.
There are two tabs, underneath the front bezel, you can see them right by the 2 front feet. And even I can see them now :/
The lock was unlocked. But thanks also for the pic tips, the lock was easy to jimmy with pins!
The lock would keep the entire top cover from sliding, the IBM hardware manual calls its a safety feature! Manual didn’t describe the latch tabs, probably thought it was obvious :/

Best part of these old systems, boot up is 8 seconds to desktop!
