I want to add an 8-foot long extension to my USB 2.0 mouse
cable so it can snake through my desk instead of going across
the top of the desk (no, I don’t want a wireless mouse). Is that
completely ok, or is it possible that adding eight feet to the
existing six-foot cable would cause problems? I could shorten
the existing cable to three feet, so that the total length would
be eleven feet. Would that make any difference?

The information below comes from a Google search. Although it indicates your specifed length is excessive it may well work anyway. Why would you need 14′ total? Seems like a lot. Shorter extension cables are available.
