Hi,
I recently changed my motherboard because of a host of problems know that i changed it i am getting a high pitch whine emitting from my CPU area when the machine is under load booting from BIOS is fine but as soon as windows loads up it kicks off
Momentarily it was much worse but after updating my BIOS and disabling CPU stream it has gradually reduced but still there
I am running the following:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
2GB Corsair XMS2 and 2GB Samsung RAM
M4A78-HTPC Motherboard
500GB Samsung HD and 250 GB Seagate HD
Also the following below will show why i have eliminated to around the CPU area
– Tried 3 Different PSU’s namely antec and coolermaster
– Tried 2 set of RAM Sticks
– Disabled Hard Drives – Defragmented them
– Even took the CPU cooler off for a moment
– Booted PC up with minimal power input i.e. PSU, one HDD, and CPU Cooler
– Changed IDE cables
– Disabled every fan
– Took all the components apart within my case and laid them out separately and found that the noise was emitting from the CPU socket area
– Tried connecting my old MB with CPU connecting etc and there was no squeal
It seems I might need to replace the mobo but after updating the BIOS it seems to have subsided so i am thinking maybe manually changing the voltage or something
Thanks
I’ll never understand some people’s troubleshooting methods.
Get yourself a piece of plastic tubing 2-3 ft long & use it as a makeshift stethoscope….hold one end up to your ear & probe around with the other end until you pinpoint the source of the noise.
