First off, I’m in tech support, and I can repair computers.
But this has me stumped.
My 4215 won’t POST. No beeps. Nothing on the Display/Screen (main LCD).
It powers on. A few of the correct Icons on the STATUS-LCD flash, like the HD, but THEN, the Scroll-lock ICON on the STATUS-LCD keeps flashing.
No beeps. Nothing on the screen.
And after a few seconds, the FAN runs at full speed, and continues at full speed.
So just the FAN and the flashing Scroll-Lock Icon on the Status-LCD.
I’ve tried Fn-F10 to change the display, but it doesn’t do anything.
I’ve also tried Fn-F7 to turn up brightness on display, and Fn-F9 to turn up volume, hoping to see something or hear some beeps.
It does the same thing every time.
It does it with the battery installed, and with the battery removed and just on the AC.
If you know what the culprit is, then please tell me. In addition, I have some questions:
1) What does flashing Scroll-Lock mean?
2) Does this computer have flash or BATTERY-BACKED CMOS? Might this computer need a new CMOS COIN-style battery?
3) Is there a way to do a low-level RESET?
Thanks.

Has this LifeBook T4215 been dropped ? Has it had liquid spilled on it ?
“1) What does flashing Scroll-Lock mean? “
I searched for: LifeBook T4215 flashing led
I found this ….

See the table of symptoms near the end of the page after this……
“32. My machine doesn’t start – I have blinking symbols on the status display.
Newer systems do not use Beep codes. The error is coded by using 3 indicators.”
You have a memory problem.
Try re-seating the ram module(s).
If that doesn’t help…….
You can get oddball symptoms if any of the installed ram is incompatible. E.g., it won’t boot normally, no video, no mboard beeps (when the mboard is capable of producing them).
If you’re not sure if the installed ram is compatible, install at least one module that you can confirm is compatible with being installed in the model..
“2) Does this computer have flash or BATTERY-BACKED CMOS? Might this computer need a new CMOS COIN-style battery?”
As far as I have seen / read about, all modern laptops and netbooks have both a battery backed Cmos / bios chip, and a flash chip that can’t have the user contents such as passwords erased by removing the power to it.
Generically, it may have a non-rechargable or a rechargable battery; it may be a coin cell battery or another type.
I’ve never come across or heard of ANY computer that failed to boot because the cmos battery was too weak or dead, but I suppose you may have oddball symptoms if it were shorted.
“3) Is there a way to do a low-level RESET?”
I have no idea what you mean when you say that, but I suspect NO.
