Enabled Cdfs.Sys; DVD Still Doesn’t Recognize Media

  • 0

My DVD-RW quit recognizing media, whether blank, pre-recorded by computer or for retail sale. I found my cdfs.sys disabled. I fixed the cdfs.sys – it is now enabled, as is the udfs.sys (I didn’t check it before applying fixes. It could have been enabled the whole time)

Despite my corrections, the drive still can’t read media.

  1. Does it read CDs but not DVDs? Or no media at all? As I understand it, there are separate lasers for CDs & DVDs. If your drive reads one type of disc but not the other, one of the lasers is probably bad which means the drive will have to be replaced.
