Solved DVI-I Adapter Giving No Signal To VGA Monitor

  • 1

Hi

Sorry if i sound newbie, but i recently purchased a used custom built PC for gaming from Ebay,

The graphics card has two DVI-I ports (ones that have the + connection) as well as HDMI, but my monitor only supports VGA connections, So i purchased a DVI-I adapter and connected this to my graphics card, with the vga cable running from it to the monitor

When i start the PC up my monitor says no signal and then goes into sleep mode, I have tried both DVI slots but the issue does not resolve

Am I doing something wrong?

  1. I believe both types of adapters are interchangeable but one has more contacts in use.

Another possibility, if you have not wiped Windows and re-installed, is that the presets for the output are not compatible with your monitor. Try booting into Windows safe mode by continuously tapping F8 at start up. If you see something one the screen then, change the display type to VGA and reboot.
