Convert Usb Port To Take 9 Pin Din

  • 1

My new computer only has usb ports but I want to use a wireless keyboard and mouse that I already have. The problem is one of the connections is a 9 pin din. Is there a connector or cable available that can convert the din to a usb? I have googled it and tried a few electronics websites but no joy

  1. If its a 6 pin then it is probably PS/2 and should plug directly into a PS/2 port.

You can get PS/2 to USP adaptors family easily.

  2. Don’t depend on one of those PS2-to-USB adapters. They are notorious for being big trouble even on wired keyboards let alone wireless ones.
Not sure you’re right about the 9-pin DIN though. Only connections I’ve seen on wireless modules for keyboard & mouse kits are either USB or the round PS2. It would be highly unusual for such a device to have a serial plug.

  3. What brand was your original pc? I’m betting it was a bespoke keyboard that may only fit the original system. AFAIK 9pin ‘DIN’ plugs were never used as standards on computers, I’ve seen 9-pin mini DIN used for video connections – the old-style AT keyboards were 5-pin ‘DIN’ type and of course PS2 is 6 pin.
Being wireless makes it slightly more problematic.

  4. I’m not so sure this is a serial connector. All the 9 pin serial connectors I have seen have been D Type plugs. You need to find out exactly what kind of interface this 9 pin DIN expects to be connected to.

If it is in fact a serial connector getting an adaptor that will take a 9 pin DIN plug is going to be very difficult if not impossible.

Check the pin configuration against this list and see if anything looks like it. If it were a six pin DIN plug then it would be a simple PS/2 connector.
