Asus Sabertooth 99FX R2.0 Compatible Sound Cards?

  • 2

Hello,

I’m looking for a good quality sound card that is compatible with the Asus SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 motherboard and supports 7.1 surround sound that can be adapted to with a headset (Razer Tiamat 7.1 exactly).

I’m not 100% sure if my motherboard already supports 7.1 surround sound, I could not come to a conclusion after a bit of research. Money is not really a object here, but I would prefer to keep my budget around $100-150 for a good quality sound card.

I can give any more info if requested, thanks for the help!

  1. Your board already supports 7.1 audio.
Here’s the thing though. Unless your headset requires a ton of power to drive, you probably won’t benefit much from a sound card upgrade. Asus does a great job with onboard audio, especially on their high end Sabertooth and Rampage motherboards.

I use a Rampage IV Gene, and its shielded implementation of the Realtek ALC898 actually sounds better than the Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium I was using in a previous computer.

I think the only real upgrade in audio quality would be a USB DAC.
