Driver Installation on a new hard drive

  • 0

I installed a new hard drive on my laptop computer (Dell Inspirion 6000) I then installed XP Home Edition Service Pack 2. In Device Manager my ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller, network controller, (video controller – this has an red x thru yellow question mark) and video controller(VGACompatible) has yellow question marks next to them. I can not get on Internet from that computer, so i used aother computer, went to dell and downloaded all the drivers they specfied you would need after installing a new xp program. I downloaded the notebook, chipset, video, broadcom driver, quikset, audio, modem, wireless card, touchpad. I downloaded drivers to a removable storage device, transfered them to the desktop of my laptop. When I Idoubleclick the icon a Open With box appears that list Internet Explorer(which i can not access) Notepad, Paint, Windows Media Player, Windows picture. and Wordpad and a browse option. Questions: Do I need to install the entire list of drivers Dell specify ? Where does the Notebook and Chipset drivers go to, those are indicated to go in first and second install order. How do i install the drivers when the Open With box comes up. The more I read and research I become more confused. The xp program I used is an xp program sent from Dell but for my Dell Desktop, not my laptop, also sent was drivers and utilities cd’s but im unsure if the laptop and desktop has same drivers and utilities so I have not tried to use those driver cd’s Can Someone please assist me I need this computer for school. Thank You
