Unable To Boot IBM PS1

  • 0

I have been trying to get an old PS1 working for a friend who just wants something to do word processing on.
The machine was working 2 years ago when it went into the shed and was running DOS6 and Win 3.1 but now it seems to be booting from the IBM DOS on the internal ROM. I don’t get the quad screen the machine just stops and doesn’t respond to the keyboard. I know the CMOS battery is dead but I tried to boot with 2 AA batteries but still no joy.
Fromj these forums it would seem an IBM boot disk is required. Can anyone out there help ?

  1. You need to replace the battery with one(s) of equal voltage. You may be able to do it with AA’s or look for an exact replacement.
Then you need to configure the cmos. I think those use floppy reference disks for that. You should be able to download a file to create the disk if you don’t have it. Post back the exact model number of the IBM if you can’t find the disk.
