Fan Spinning Too Fast + Monitor No Signal

  • 0

Hey, something fairly weird happened.

My first problem is that when I attempt to turn my monitor on for some reason it decides to give me a no signal. The computer is on when doing this and I tested my monitor on another computer to see if the same problem persisted, it did not. This makes me assume there’s a problem with the computer I am using, but it could be something else I’m unaware of.

The second problem is that my computer’s (the same in the above situation that the monitor wouldn’t work with) fan seems to be spinning too fast. I looked it up to see why and a lot of what i found seems to attribute it to overheating, but my computer doesn’t feel heated/overheated. Others have said it could also be dust, but the computer is spotless. Other than that, I couldn’t seem to find any helpful information.

I am in no way a computer expert, I’m novice at best so I could really utilize some assistance with the situation I am currently in. If there is any more information you need to assist me with my problem, I will do what I can to provide it.

  1. The “no signal” error should be fairly obvious. The monitor isn’t receiving a video signal, that means the problem is with something within the computer. Could be the graphics card, motherboard, CPU, power supply, etc.

The high speed fan indicates the CPU is overheating. The system is trying to lower the CPU temp by increasing the fan speed. You can’t tell if it’s overheating by “feel”, you need to run a temp monitoring program or check the BIOS. Unfortunately, if you can’t get a display, you can’t check the temp.

You didn’t list any specs but since your system has 10GB RAM, is running Win8, & has a monitor, it’s most likely a relatively new desktop. Is it a custom build or store bought? What’s the make/model? Did you do anything inside the case that may have brought this problem on? Did you do any cleaning, install RAM, mess with the CPU heatsink, etc?

You also posted in the wrong forum, this should be in hardware.
