What Is UDIMM And How Is It Diffrent From DIMM?

  • 4

so I am looking to get some RAM for a computer build, I found this RAM:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0…

But I also found another:
http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Balli…

I noticed that the second option says its UDIMM, is it compatible with my board?

*I want to buy low profile ram so i can easily install a bulky cooler. I wont be overclocking the ram so the heatsinks would have been of no use.

  1. The U is for Unregisterd. Both choices are “UDIMM” but only one actually calls it that. I don’t know why because the majority of RAM is UDIMM, otherwise it’s RDIMM (Registered) which is generally used in servers.

Here’s a clickable link to your board: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0…

I doubt the low profile RAM is required but you know better as to what components you’re assembling. BTW, notice the differences in voltages between the RAM you linked to.
