Solved How Do I Format Drive C Using DOS Command

My computer is ruined by viruses. It will not boot up. I managed to get on to command prompts. C:\windows I type format c:\ and get error message.
I assume I have to get rid of the “windows” and just get to C:\ How di I do that and how do I type the right command to format c: Thank you for your help

  1. It’s format c:/s and not format c:\s. But that won’t work unless you boot from a 98 or ME bootdisk AND your XP is on a fat32 and not an NTFS partition.

    Why can’t you boot from the cdrom?
