Horizontal Line On Toshiba Laptop Screen

  • 1

I have a very thin (about 1/2 mm) horizontal line
appeared about 5 mm below the top of the LCD
panel of my lap top. Do I need to be worried?

  1. The problem with assuming that the issue is Image Persistence, is that Image Persistence with LCD displays, is an issue with the LCD display itself. It is not something that Windows keeps on pushing to the monitor. Thus, you cannot capture an image of the Image Persistence with a Screen Capture.

Think about that. Think about that REALLY hard, fellow geeks. A screen capture only takes a snapshot of what Windows is pushing to the screen. A ghost image that has been “burned in” to an LCD panel is NOT being pushed by Windows to the screen. It is a fingerprint left behind in the LCD. It is there whether you continue to use Windows, or boot to a LiveCD. It is damage (temporary or permanent) to the LCD panel itself. Thus, you cannot screen cap an example of Image Persistence.

Think about it this way. Image Persistence is similar to physical damage to an LCD panel. Like a crack in the screen. Imagine that. Crack an LCD screen. Watch in your mind as the black seeps out from that crack, obscuring the desktop. Do you imagine that you could capture an image of THAT by hitting the Print Screen button? No. Because it is not damage to what is being displayed by Windows… it is damage to the screen itself. That is Image Persistence. It is damage to the Liquid Crystals themselves.

Now, the reason why creating a white screen in Windows, and pushing that to the screen works, is because you are forcing ALL the crystals to behave a certain way… including the ones that won’t release that ghost image.
