Hp pavilion 7955 I put in a clean hard drive and want to install windows xp pro but can’t get past the dos screen that says CDBoot: Cannot boot from cd Code 5. I did not do anything with the cd or dvd players just changed the hard drive. Any idea what I can do to make it read the disk and install it.

I don’t think simply inserting the XP disk and booting with it actually do anything to the resident hard drive in the computer testing the disk. By that I mean you let system detect and boot up (if it can) but you don’t let it go any further.; and thus it won’t affect, or write to, or change the resident mbr and installed OS?
You merely see if the disk will boot another computer; and then close out, remove the disk and let that system reboot as normal?
When you tested the problem computer with the win-7 DVD (using the DVDROM not the CDROM) did you get the same/simliar error code?
