Hi my laptop won't boot normally or in safe mode or anything.When I boot into safe mode it hangs on hal.dll.What is the problem?.I don't have my xp cd or any other os on cd(the drive is a cd-rom)Please help.Thanks

Google for the term hal.dll. You will find many hits.

Running WinXP pro on a 233 machine with 96MBs of RAM must be excruciately slow.

Excruciatingly slow is putting it mildly; I'm surprised it runs at all.

Without an XP CD your options are going to be severely limited. In fact I cant think of anything you can do that doesn't require an XP CD and as you cant get into Windows there is nothing you can do from there.

Did you by any chance install this XP with the disk in another machine then move the disk over to this machine. If this is the case then it is never going to work.
