These days I'm unable to boot my old computer, but I'm not going to open my computer case again...

I don't know if there are any way (Keys) to boot with default settings and override the BIOS settings...

Also, I'm considering about find or create a newer BIOS for that motherboard... Is there any way to implement new features on old BIOS?

The only key or keys usually available during the initial boot process is key that keys you into the BIOS setup. This will allow you to set the settings to default.

If you cant even do that there is a jumper on the motherboard that can be temporary moved to another position that will destroy the current settings and then boot with defaults. Its called CMOS reset. You need to open the case for that.

You could create a new BIOS for the motherboard if you were are expert programmer and knew all about hardware and had access the technical description of the motherboard, otherwise forget it.

Why won't the machine boot?

Exactly what happens when you power on?
Do you get the initial single beep?
Do you get anything on the monitor screen?

When boot, it only shows the logo and memory amount, but the tip of "Press CTRL_ALT_ESC to enter setup." never shows. (The computer somehow halted at that place) That's why I'm asking.

Once I got the same problem, but the thing was solved by removing ISA devices and reconfigure it...

Also, I have to say, the old Acer BIOS never beeps when boot.

I was confused by the settings of Sound Blaster 16 (ASP, CT2290). Usually the devices uses I/O 220, IRQ 10, DMA 3 DMA-16 7, but the last time I boot, the device somehow uses IRQ 5, DMA 1 and DMA-16 1... It seemed that the sound can only be detected when a sound was processed into the device, otherwise it won't detect...

This was the result shown in SBDETECT code I've got from a site.
