For those who own a Toshiba HD DVD player, please be advised that Toshiba released a new firmware update in June for all its HD DVD players.

You can grab it from Toshiba web site. For those having Europian models, you can get the update from

http://www.toshibahddvd.co.uk/suppo...

You can burn the .iso file inside the downloaded zipped file to a blank CD and do the update from it.

The TV must be on during the update because you have to O.K. the update before it starts.

The update takes slightly over 15 minutes.

When the update is finished, the tray opens and the player turns itself off with the tray still open.

Take out the update disk and turn the player on with the power button on the player. The tray closes automatically and the update finishes. You can use your updated player now.

I suggest you connect the player's mains lead to a UPS during the update just in case there is an electrical powerdown or other disturbance.

By the way, I have updated my player from version 1.1 to version 3.0, the newest, without a problem but I haven't yet fully tested my player to see if anything such as player start-up time and disk load times has improved.

Regards
