{"id":8868,"date":"2021-11-30T03:40:27","date_gmt":"2021-11-30T03:40:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lgildv5i97.onrocket.site\/answers\/?post_type=question&#038;p=8868"},"modified":"2021-11-30T03:41:46","modified_gmt":"2021-11-30T03:41:46","slug":"panasonic-toughbook-cf-25-supervisor-password","status":"publish","type":"question","link":"https:\/\/computing.net\/answers\/hardware\/panasonic-toughbook-cf25-supervisor-password\/63362.html","title":{"rendered":"Panasonic Toughbook CF-25 Supervisor Password"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m messing around with a Toughbook&#8230;I think the original one actually, a CF-25 with a Pentium MMX 166 and 32MB of RAM.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the CMOS battery being very, very dead (0.01 volts output) and now completely removed, there is a supervisor password set and somehow being maintained.<\/p>\n<p>This would suggest either a CMOS setup fault of some kind or that the password is stored in nonvolatile memory.<\/p>\n<p>This computer does NOT have sensitive data on it &#8211; it came to me with a dead (click of death) hard drive. It does currently have a good drive which I added.<\/p>\n<p>The password is not preventing booting and using the machine, but I&#8217;d like the extra parts of the BIOS available to tinker with.<\/p>\n<p>It uses an IBM OEM&#8217;d BIOS (POST screen and layout of setup indicate this).<\/p>\n<p>Anyone know the &#8220;backdoor&#8221; or &#8220;override&#8221; passwords for Toughbooks or IBM systems? I&#8217;m hoping there is one. I used to have a great list of them but I&#8217;ve lost it.<\/p>\n<p>Panasonic tells me the password should reset if the CMOS battery is removed, but I suspect that&#8217;s just for the newer ones.
