{"id":8235,"date":"2021-11-28T02:07:05","date_gmt":"2021-11-28T02:07:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lgildv5i97.onrocket.site\/answers\/?post_type=question&#038;p=8235"},"modified":"2021-11-28T02:07:27","modified_gmt":"2021-11-28T02:07:27","slug":"ntkern-windows-protection-error","status":"publish","type":"question","link":"https:\/\/computing.net\/answers\/windows-95\/ntkern-windows-protection-error\/170950.html","title":{"rendered":"NTKERN Windows Protection Error"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I boot my Windows 95 Virtual PC, it usually after running autoexec.bat and in middle of the boot screen, displays this message:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While initializing driver NTKERN<br \/>\nWindows protection error, you have to restart your computer&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And then hangs.<\/p>\n<p>I can boot to safe mode. Also, I can boot into normal mode if I boot to safe mode first then change to normal mode. It only works once then, though.<\/p>\n<p>Tried following things:<br \/>\n1. Other Virtual PC&#8217;s work. It&#8217;s not a RAM problem.<br \/>\n2. Replace the vmm32.vxd with a clean version from Win95 CABs.<br \/>\n3. Reinstall Windows 95. TWICE.<br \/>\n4. Running RegClean, absolutely no help.<br \/>\n5. Set memory down to 16 MB.<\/p>\n<p>Still no help.<\/p>\n<p>About the version: I&#8217;m not sure whether it has packs, OSRs or something, but the System dialog says 4.10.999. Strange enough, command.com says &#8220;Microsoft Nashville&#8221;, so it&#8217;s possible this is a some kind of beta version?<\/p>\n<p>This problem is very annoying, and I have looked it from the Google for around three hours now.
