\n<br><i>By: <a href=”\/web\/20210116145639\/https:\/\/www.computing.net\/userinfo\/240921″>sdfox 7<\/a><\/i><br><i>April 16, 2014<\/i><p><\/p>When using an old computer with Google Chrome 34 or later, you may receive a message that states “This computer will soon stop receiving Google Chrome Updates because its hardware is no longer supported”.<br><br>This is believed to be due to the lack of SSE2 instructions in some older processors. On many computers I have worked on with Windows XP, I have not received the message. <br><br>However, on one AMD Athlon XP machine, the message appeared. It’s also the only machine that coincidentally lacks SSE2 instructions (all older pre AMD 64 processors lack SSE2). <a name=”” target=”_blank” classname=”” class=”” href=”https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210116145639\/https:\/\/productforums.google.com\/forum\/#!msg\/chrome\/XJdoiFZjBno\/tw0rIdy1kQIJ”>This thread also seems to corroborate my suspicion<\/a>.<br><br>Follow my information here below. This will not help you with newer versions of Chrome, but it prevents the message from appearing.<br><br>1) There is nowhere on the web you can download an old version of regular Google Chrome, I already tried. But since Google Portable does not update itself, it is part of the solution.<br>If you go to their website they only have the current version.<br><br>2) However, if you pull up the archived page from April 3, you can find the old browser.<br><br><a name=”” target=”_blank” classname=”” class=”” href=”https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210116145639\/http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140403232010\/http:\/\/portableapps.com\/apps\/internet\/google_chrome_portable”>http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140403232010\/http:\/\/portableapps.com\/apps\/internet\/google_chrome_portable<\/a><br><br>3) <font color=”#FF0000″>But, it’s not that easy. Clicking on the old link gives you a robots.txt message<\/font>. So I searched the browser page HTML source (right click to View Source) to find the direct download link:<br><br><a name=”” target=”_blank” classname=”” class=”” href=”https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210116145639\/http:\/\/downloads.sourceforge.net\/portableapp\/GoogleChromePortable_33.0.1750.154_online.paf.exe”>http:\/\/downloads.sourceforge.net\/portableapp\/GoogleChromePortable_33.0.1750.154_online.paf.exe<\/a><br><br>4) After downloading the 1.34MB installer above, execute it and let the 35,974KB download complete, install and you will have a working copy of Google Chrome 33 33.0.1750.154 m Portable for older computers without the annoying message.
