Only one user account exist on this machine, profile size of 6MB, I have scanned the entire HDD (Full scan) using Microsoft Security essentials and no threats were detected.

I constantly receive the ‘Baloon’ Low Disk space warning message “You are running very low on disk space on Local Disk (C:) To free space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click here…” and I am then prompted to run the Disk clean up wizard.
I have removed redundant programs which are not needed, deleted all but the most recent restore point, emptied out the Recycle Bin, deleted temporary files – manually searching the %temp% directory only yields about 304KB of temporary files.

No matter how I try I am unable to clear down more than approximately 200MB of free disk space which quickly diminishes down to around 9 MB of free space. I have even used a 3rd party application Revo Uninstaller to help look for junk files to no avail.

Now I know that Netbooks are designed primarily for surfing the web blah blah, but surely installing MS Office Professional 2007 would not be sufficient to max out the HDD. By scanning Add or Remove programs I can see that MS Office only takes up about 302 MB of disk space. The majority of installations here are security updates for MS Office system, .NET framework patches and Security updates for Windows XP.

Another thing wrong with this Netbook also is that I keep getting prompted to install a Base system device which I believe to be the Chipset. I downloaded the Chipset drivers from http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/cont… but no matter how I try to install it I always get “The Hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software” message, even installing using the Chipset’s extracted set up files (\\Chipset_Intel_8.3.0.1018_XPx86_A\\Chipset_Intel_8.3.0.1018_XPx86\\Setup.exe) doesn’t make a difference either.

I would be grateful for any assistance or advice.

Apologies if you find the details a bit ‘extra’ just felt I needed to put in as much as I could first hand.

Thanks in advance.

[76

post-2340","question","type-question","status-publish","hentry","question-category-windows-xp
["GET
