{"id":2175,"date":"2021-10-27T14:54:01","date_gmt":"2021-10-27T14:54:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lgildv5i97.onrocket.site\/answers\/?post_type=question&#038;p=2175"},"modified":"2021-10-27T14:54:28","modified_gmt":"2021-10-27T14:54:28","slug":"solved-bios-settings-will-not-save","status":"publish","type":"question","link":"https:\/\/computing.net\/answers\/hardware\/bios-settings-will-not-save\/86286.html","title":{"rendered":"Solved BIOS Settings Will Not Save"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi<br \/>\nI recently acquired a desktop PC with the following Specs:<\/p>\n<p>O\/S Windows XP Pro<br \/>\nSystem Model<br \/>\nAOpen KM400-8237<br \/>\nDesktop<\/p>\n<p>Processor<br \/>\n2.00 gigahertz AMD Sempron<br \/>\n128 kilobyte primary memory cache<br \/>\n256 kilobyte secondary memory cache<br \/>\nNot hyper-threaded<\/p>\n<p>768 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory<\/p>\n<p>Main Circuit Board<br \/>\nBus Clock: 166 megahertz<br \/>\nBIOS: Phoenix\/Award Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 09\/07\/2004<\/p>\n<p>Maxtor 6Y080L0 Hard drive 80 GB<\/p>\n<p>When I switched it on, I was presented with the two options of press F1 to Load default settings or Delete to enter Setup.<\/p>\n<p>I enter Delete to reset the BIOS settings and reset the date and time and the required boot up settings.<br \/>\nAfter I unplugged the PC and switched it back on again the settings were lost and as the pc had not been used for a good, long while I suspected that the CMOS battery was dead.<\/p>\n<p>I bought another one after opening the case and removing the old one and checking the serial number, from eBay (I know) only to read after the purchase that someone had written that a battery bought from them was a dead one, so I bought another from a reputable dealer.<\/p>\n<p>The battery slots into a vertical slot on the motherboard and a metal clip was over the top of it, not touching it, looked as if it was only there to save it falling out if the case was bumped, moved etc<\/p>\n<p>After replacing the battery and ensuring that the battery is well bedded in and touching both the sides of its slot, using the good one the BIOS settings still would not remain as set, so I used the suspect iffy one from eBay still no joy.<\/p>\n<p>I have double-checked that everything was connected and bedded down correctly, but still it will not save the BIOS Settings if unplugged from the mains.<\/p>\n<p>Can anyone assist or point me in the right direction on how to fix this problem?<\/p>\n<p>Many Thanks In Advance<\/p>\n<p>Toby963<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"inline_featured_image":false,"iawp_total_views":2},"question-category":[47],"question_tags":[],"class_list":["post-2175","question","type-question","status-publish","hentry","question-category-hardware"],"jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/computing.net\/answers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/question\/2175","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/computing.net\/answers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/question"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/computing.net\/answers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/question"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/computing.net\/answers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/computing.net\/answers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2175"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/computing.net\/answers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2175"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"question-category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/computing.net\/answers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/question-category?post=2175"},{"taxonomy":"question_tags","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/computing.net\/answers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/question_tags?post=2175"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
