I’m running windows XP home service pack 3 32 bit OS<\/p>\n
I want to get rid of ( or disable) windows media player 9 b’cuz I don’t like microsoft .
\nPlease refer to the info below to see my attempt to kill media player<\/p>\n
1) I tried to delete all files from this folder as suggested by microsoft.
\nThey simple rewrite themselves<\/p>\n
2) So I entitled each file with a new name as suggested by microsoft.
\nWhen I rename files they continue to simply rewrite themselves.<\/p>\n
Obviously I’ve been unsuccessful. Any help will be appreciated<\/p>\n

\nThis was posted a few months back on another help site. But I don’t know what system it was for (98, me or xp). You may or may not want to try it.

\nThis instruction came directly from microsoft. I made a online request for help.<\/p>\n
1. Uninstall Media Player 9:<\/p>\n
1). Click Start, click Run, type the following command in the Open box, and press Enter:<\/p>\n
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection uninstall 132 c:\\windows\\inf\\wmp.inf<\/p>\n
Note: Since the command-line is case sensitive, you may copy and paste it into the Open box.<\/p>\n
2). Reboot the computer.<\/p>\n
2. Modify Folder Options:<\/p>\n
1). Open Windows Explorer, click the Tools menu, and click Folder Options.
\n2). On the View tab, select the ‘Show hidden files and folders’ option, deselect the ‘Hide extensions for known file types’ option, and click OK.<\/p>\n
3. Empty the folder: C:\\Program Files\\Windows Media Player.<\/p>\n
4. Rename or delete the following files (if they exist):<\/p>\n
C:\\Windows\\wmplibrary_v_0_12.db
\nC:\\Windows\\INF\\wmp.inf
\nC:\\Windows\\INF\\wmp.pnf
\nC:\\Windows\\System\\wmploc.dll
