I saw a now closed (abandoned, not really “solved”) thread similar to this, but still am unsure if I can swap my i7 for the i5 in the new laptop. Here are both CPU specs:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz (Turbo Boost up to 3.5 GHz, 4 MB Smartcache, 2 Cores 4 Threads)
FCBGA1356

Intel Core i5-7200U 2.5 GHz (Turbo Boost up to 3.10 GHz, 3 MB Smartcache, 2 Cores 4 Threads)
FCBGA1356

Here’s the homework I’ve done so far:

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u…

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u…

Are these swap-able because they’re both FCBGA1356, or are they incompatible because of the difference in Turbo Boost Max and Smartcache numbers?

PS. I’ve been swapping out things like RAM, heat-sinks, and identical MoBos-to-chasis for about 20 years now, so I’m not a complete newb, but I’m also not the guru-of-all-tech either (or I would already know this one), so I’m somewhere in the middle, in case that helps anyone out there.

message edited by ChewyGrizzy

[44

post-10837","question","type-question","status-publish","hentry","question-category-cpus
["GET
