How to make windows 7 boot a little faster and some performance increase tips.

Start up programs and bloatware (unwanted free trials and software preloaded on a computer by the manufacturer) can make windows 7 boot slower as trials will pop up when you first start up your computer or laptop, you can uninstall the programs you don’t want by using the control panel, this is the proper way of uninstalling programs.

    To uninstall a program

Step 1. Go to the control panel (on the right underneath computer)  via the start menu.

Step 2. Go to programs and then go on uninstall a program and it will load a list of installed programs.

Step 3. Click on the program you want to uninstall  then right click.

Step 4. Click on uninstall and a uninstall wizard for the program will come up eventually if not straight away.

Step 5. When the uninstalling is in process you can do some other things while its uninstalling.

Step 6. When the wizard has completed successfully you have just uninstalled a program.

    Start up programs

Start up programs are programs that launch when you start up your computer, for example if Internet Explorer was a start up program it would load when you start you computer, this can slow the computers boot time down depending on how many start up programs you have got, removing the ones that you don’t need is not very hard.

Step 1. You can access the start up folder via all programs via the start menu.

Step 2. When you have found the start up folder which will be in the ‘s’ section and will be labeled startup.

Step 3. Don’t delete the folder, open the folder and delete its contents ( highlight all startup programs, right click, delete and they will be sent to the recycle bin which you can empty).

Step 4. Restart your computer to see if the boot times are quicker .

Step 5. There are still more startup files which you can delete by going on the start menu and search system configuration then press enter.

Step 6. a window will come up, there are several tabs at the top, go onto startup, and go through the ones you know you don’t need and uncheck them, don’t uncheck the ones you don’t know as they could be important, especially system programs and manufacturer programs, after you have unchecked the ones you don’t need click apply at the bottom and click restart.

Now your computer should boot a little faster.

    Tips to Increase Performance

    If you have installed windows 7 on an older computer and it is performing slow there are a few things you can do;

    Upgrade the processor

Upgrading the processor to a better one can make you computer faster, when upgrading keep in mind which processors your mother board supports, the processor’s socket, front side bus ( FSB), TDP, if it requires an BIOS (Basic Input Output System) update and if its got good reviews or bad ones and which company made it (Intel or AMD)

Upgrade the amount of RAM ( Random Access Memory or memory).

This website can help you with memory upgrades- www.cruical.com.

    Change the Visual effects

When you first get a windows 7 or vista computer or laptop windows visual effects are set to best appearance (looks). This setting takes alot of processing and graphical ‘power’ to give you laptop the best looks but has one major consequence on slower or older systems, it will make the computer slower, to change these settings to make it faster:

Step 1. Go on to the start menu and start typing in the search bar adjust and and look for adjust the appearance and performance of windows and click on it.

Step 2. A window will come up under performance click settings and then check adjust for best performance it will make windows 7 look a little like windows 98,to get back the windows 7 look on the scroll list go all the way down to the bottom and check use visual styles on windows and buttons.

    Free up disk space

You can get some free hard drive space by using disk cleanup:

Step 1. Search disk cleanup in the start menu and click on it,

Step 2. Select the main partition (c//drive or OS drive)and click ok and a loading window will come up, it take a few minutes.

Step 3. When it has done searching an option box will come up, check all the squares and click OK at the bottom .

Step 4. Click yes when the prompt comes up and it will delete unnecessary files.

    Defragment your hard drive.

This can also increase performance but it will take time DO NOT DO THIS WITH SSDs.

Step 1. To defragment your hard disk search disk defragmenter in the start menu and click in it.

Step 2. Click on the partition (section) which holds the OS and click defragment disk.
