Motherboard Not Interested In Video Output

So I recently built a computer for a friend from all brand new parts. so as far as i know, everything is working. but for the life of me, i cant get this stupid box to give me a video output.

when it was first setup, i also had a video card and a wifi card built in. i tried using both the video output on the motherboard and the video output on the card, and no dice. so then, to eliminate any problems that may be caused by those pieces, i removed them, so it is just the motherboard, cpu, 2 gigs ram and a harddrive. (well and the power supply of course!)

but still!!! no dice!!! i am very confused!
and yes, i tested the monitor i was using on a different computer and it works fine.
