Can WD HDD Type AV Be Used As Normal Windows Hard Drive?

ok got a new hdd cheap from ebay, its a western digital WD32000AVJS, i thought this was just a normal hdd @ first, but after doin a bit of research iv found out its different western digital have a whole webpage about it

basically i want to know if this type hdd is ok to use like a normal hdd on desktop game pc with OS installed on it etc, and will there be any overall performance drops/gains when using a AV hdd.??

    1. You should have asked BEFORE you bought the drive. AV = Audio Visual. This type of HDD is designed for use in surveillance systems that run 24/7 such as store security camera recordings. It does not have error correction therefore it is NOT good for desktop use. Here’s a clip from a review:

      “Some unscrupulous or misinformed dealers are promoting such AV-optimized hard disk drives as “superior” versions of their desktop cousins with appropriately higher price tags. Nothing could be further from the truth. These AV-optimized hard disk drives are neither superior nor inferior to their desktop equivalents. They are designed to be used in very specific applications, and are not meant for use in desktop or server environments.“
