http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r26… – This one seems to suggest it’s indicating a problem with the incoming signal level…
All the links (and there are many out there) seem to point to an issue with signal strength; is the modem you running at the correct speed/level etc.
http://www.cox.com/residential/supp… – may shed a little light – not sure what a Bonded connection means in this discussion.. But presumably if the lamp is flashing it might mean that either it’s trying “to bond” and can’t – for whatever reason.. Again signal strength comes to mind based one the above links etc…
Might be useful to chat to your cable company and see what they can suggest? Ths modem is cable modem by all accounts?
Also “running hot” would suggest something is overworking? Either too high a signal incoming, or an intermittent/unstable one and the system is going “nuts” trying to resolve and work with it?
Which having said… a last quick look-see around google brings this one:

Which oddly says that it’s no problem…??? Again I’d have a chat with your isp and see what signal levels they are sending; and also check what the modem stats tell you when you check them – up and downlink rates not the least?
And this one suggests an issue re’ Gigabyte connection – between the modem and your router (if there is one; or even you computer if modem direct to it)? Replacing the cat-5 cable seemed to solve it – last but one answer…

I think one the earlier links I posted above mentions the gigabyte issue too…
And finally:

is the manual for this modem; check page 31 – 33 re’ what the orange light means…
