What If Anything Can I Do About System Interupt?

  • 3

I have windows 8 on a 2 month old HP Pavilion 23. It has an AMD A6 processor. When I download things like torrents, my system interrupt kick in and takes half or more of my CPU. The mouse starts stalling and jumping and video slows down and so on. Over time its become worse. Used to happen when I would download 800kb or more. Now its at 200. I have 4 GB of ram and room for 4 more. Will that help? Or what can I do?

  1. That kind of problem is usually caused by misbehaving drivers, but faulty hardware can also cause interrupts and deferred procedure calls to spike.
First thing I’d do is check to see if there’s a newer driver available for your ethernet and/or WiFi. Also make sure that no monitoring software (eg CPU frequency, temperature) is running on your system. On certain configurations, that kind of software can also increase DPC latency to the point that audio begins to crackle.
