ASUS Laptop WiFi Not Working Properly After Win 10 Upgrade

  • 2

I recently bought an Asus X555ld laptop which initially had Windows 8 installed and I upgraded it to Windows 10 Home a couple of days after I bought it. My problem is that it often has episodes in which every few minutes the WiFi disconnects. When this happens, there are no WiFi access points shown as being available but I can reconnect by disabling and re-enabling the adapter. Then it works for another few minutes before this happens again. I can also reconnect by choosing the “Diagnose” option, but all that does is disable & re-enable the adapter and then says it’s fixed – i.e. it does the same thing that I do manually. There some days when the WiFi works fine for many hours, but on most days it only works for a few minutes at a time. I still haven’t figured out if it’s a hardware or software cause. The Windows Event Log is not helpful: it just gives a generic error message:

Source: BCMWL63A
Event ID: 5002
Level: Error
Message:
Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter : Has determined that the network adapter is not functioning properly.

Before I send it back for a refund, I was wondering if any of you had any experience or advice about how to investigate this.

  1. Looks like there is no driver available on the Broadcom support website or the Asus support website for windows 10.
Try uninstalling the driver in Device Manager en restart the PC. It should reinstall the driver after boot up.

If that doesn’t fix the problem you can revert back to the previous windows installation and see if the problem persists.

  2. Did you uninstall the Wifi driver in “Device Manager” (right click the expanded entry) as per #2? This is not like an uninstall in Programs and Features. Provided you DO NOT let it remove software if it asks, all it does is disengage the software so that it sets it up again when it finds your Wifi as “new hardware”. It has been known to fix issues.

  3. We literally have the same computer and same issue, the only difference is that I upgraded to Windows 10 shortly after it was released.
My WiFi problems begun yesterday, just moments after updating the driver.

Maybe try “Roll back driver” in device manager? Mine was grayed out, so instead I clicked on “Update driver software” > “browse my computer for driver software” >”let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer” and selected one of the older updates.

I’m only testing this out right now, and so far, my connection has been good. Fingers crossed!

EDIT: I decided to leave my computer on all night and all day, and I’m happy to say that I’m still connected to the internet. Now to wait for a better update for the driver.

  4. It sounds like there is a glitch in the latest driver and Windows 10 automatically installed it on update. If you can roll back the driver for a couple of weeks and send a message to Asus Tech Support about the issue, the driver will get a new update soon and the issue should be fixed. Asus might show more than one driver for the machine and list them by date so if you do not see it to roll it back, you might find it there, you just might have to disable in Device manager first before installing the older driver that way so Windows will not give you a hard time about the ‘new’ one being older than the current one.
