I’ve noticed that several members bought this machine or at least considered buying this one. They recommended a power supply upgrade, like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ…
But no one followed up saying that it was compatible. I use this box for school and I’m just looking for a basic video card upgrade. I’m not attempting to transform it into a gaming machine, I just want to improve the Minecraft, photoshop and Google Earth experiences. I’ve upgraded it to 14GBs of RAM, so now I’m looking for another boost.

I highly doubt any helpers in these forums would have recommended a system with a slim style case. As you’re finding out, it has very limited upgradeability. From a review:

The downside here is that the slim case design of the system means that even though there is a PCI-Express graphics slot, the space and the very low 220 watt power supply pretty much only allow the most basic of graphics cards to be installed such that there is almost no benefit to adding a dedicated card.

  2. I’m guessing you added 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 to the original 6GB. Tests have shown that DDR3-1333 bottlenecks the AMD A-series CPUs. Had you dumped the original RAM & replaced it with 8GB (or 16GB) DDR3-1866, it may have been all you need to do.

The integrated HD 6530D is no slouch. Use the following chart as a guide. Make sure to go at least 3 tiers higher or you’ll just be wasting your money. Try to find something that will work with your 220W PSU.

There is no “max power supply”. You could install a 1000W unit if you could find one to fit in your case. It will only produce as much wattage as needed by the system, no more. It doesn’t produce 1000W continuously. The Athena that you linked to is garbage. If you feel you must upgrade the PSU, try to find something decent. It’s not going to be easy due to the limitations of the slim-style/ mini-ITX design.
