I am trying to reinstall a program that is no longer supported by the originator and there are no new updates. It was running on a Dell 690 x64 system that was modified to run Vista 32. I have upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The program is called VacTrac 4.0 and is an immunization tracking program. It’s basically an access program with skin to make it user friendly. It installs fine. But, then when you go to open it, an immediate pop-up opens that says Bad File Name or Number.
Does anyone have any workaround or idea as to how i can get this to work? I tried changing the compatibility settings, but the same thing happened each time.
Generally 32bit programs install and run fin on 64bit systems. 32bit programs that use an older 16bit installer will fail since 16bit is no longer supported. Access should be no problem, but the problem may be in the ‘skin’ or program that access’ the data. You may find that within the programs folder directly and try compatibility on any .exe that you find there and see if that helps. If not then you may need to install a virtual XP machine and install it under that.
