I have a Sony Vaio with broken LCD. Tried to install Ubuntu 9.10 cause Vista had problem but after the installation the system can not detect hard drive. I think that it is essential to switch to an external monitor but i can’t, cause the laptop switches to external only after OS startup. can anyone help? Thanks!

… perhaps alter a setting to vga mode(?) save settings on exit of bios
… there may be some Function <keys> to [press]
… to toggle between laptop screen and monitor eg. <Fn> + <F5> <keys>
… it may even have a monitor icon on the <key> (?) top row
