Can I Watch 3D Blu-Ray Movies On My Laptop?

  • 1

I asked this same question on Yahoo answers, and people misunderstood my question as saying as long as I have a 3d graphics card, I can (which basically all new computers have one these days, and BTW I do too). I am not talking about 3D gaming and graphics, or turning a regular movie to 3D, but asking if there is a hardware/software package I can get to view those 3D bluray movies just as if I were to purchase a new 3D TV with sterophonic shutter glasses. Is it possible to use those setrophonic 3d glasses to watch 3D movies on my PC, and if so, where can I find ones that will work with my laptop.

  1. You are dealing with a laptop that has ATI graphics onboard. It cannot run NVIDIA drivers. I’m not certain how the system works but the 120hz graphics ( 60hz to each eye) has to be synchronized with the 3D glasses. You would need to know how the IR emitter is controlled. Whether that is done from within the Power DVD programming & Video codecs or is something linked to the graphics drivers. The technology seems to still be in early development and it might not be possible to use the Nvidia peripheral hardware without Nvidia graphics.
