I have this problem where my left 1/3 and right 1/3 of my screen would switch sides on my Toshiba laptop. Initially, to fix it, I would usually just repeat the process of what caused it to fix it, however, after about a year of doing it off and on it seems to have become permanent (lasting over 4 days now).
– It seems as though someone has posted this issue with their Toshiba, however, no one seemed to actually have a solution to fixing it. (Just what could be wrong).

Also when you boot up – perhaps repeat say Housecall and one or two of the others; and also install (freebie) Bitdefender, and Malwarebytes. Let them scan fully too…
I might be more inclined to suspect either the graphics adapter or – and a very long shot at that… – the display itself.
If you connect an external display to the laptop to see how that performs? It will eliminate the built-in display if the external gives the same effect as the built-in one… but still leave the graphics adapter as a possible?
To eliminate most aspects the current OS itself… what happens if you boot to safe-mode? Similarly if you were to boot with Ubuntu disk?
