Solved How To Reset HDD SMART Attributes

  • 1

Hello. I have a laptop with hard disk having 32 bad sectors. I used DRevitalize to scan the drive for bad sectors and fix them (alternative for HDD Regenerator). It successfully fixed all those sectors but my SMART still says “Reallocated bad sectors” – Fail.. I rescanned disk after 3 days and it doesn’t have any more bad sectors. What to do?? It’s irritating because my laptop will always warn me about it every time I turn it on..

  1. What you do is ensure you have backups and think about getting a new hard disk. Once SMART starts telling you you have bad sectors things can only get worse. There is no wqay to reset the warning.

A new hard disk has an area set aside to relocate bad sectors. This is done invisibly to the user. Once this space is full, any more bad sectors and the data on them is lost. What SMART is telling you is that this space is full and it cannot relocate any more bad sectors.

A new hard disk is the only way to resolve the problem with any degree of certainty. At best these disk regenerators and revitalisers are just a temporary fix.
