Hi I purchased a Leader computer at the end of June 2010.
It said I needed do a disc check, whickh I tried to do. It said it would do the disc check unless a pressed any key within one second. That is where the screen stayed. I eventurally force a shut down, it then came up with the same screen, so I pressed a key within the time limit and nothing happened. Can you please advicse Thanking you Trish

if you can open the HDD cover and check the sort of drive you have you can then download the tools from the drive manufacturers site and check the drive on another machine, or check your drive via the usb or floppy depending what specs.
the tools will allow you to run checks repairs formats etc etc.
you may also be able to do a factory restore of the OS, usually by tapping a F key at boot, however you will to get a linux live cd/usb to load and save your files, you can also use linux live to run checks on your drive.
try giving the head office a call and they may just send you a new HDD.if you dont call and ask you will never know.
